LASK welcomes Sporting CP

LASK welcomes Sporting CP in a direct clash for the first place in Group D of Europa League. Let’s examine this match in our Europa League predictions for today.

First of all, let’s say that both teams already qualified for the knockout phase of the competition. Sporting CP are leading the group with 12 points, while LASK follow up with 10. The Austrians are three points ahead of the third PSV, but they have better head-to-head record. This means that even if LASK and PSV level up, LASK will progress.

What the Austrians can try here is to beat Sporting on Thursday and win the group. We can say the same about Sporting as well – the Portuguese team can use even a draw in order to keep the top position.

These two teams already met once in Lisboa in October. Marko Raguz scored first for the visitors, but after the break Sporting turned the game around. Luiz Phellype equalised for the hosts, while Bruno Fernandes secured the win with a second goal – 2-1 for Sporting. This is LASK’s only loss in this group so far, which should tell you that they are a pretty tough team.

Despite of the fact that he’s actually a midfielder, Bruno Fernandes is among the top goalscorers in Europa League at the moment. He has 5 goals on his name so far, which puts him on level with Sevilla’s Munir and Rangers’ Alfredo Morelos.

In our Europa League predictions we expect a serious fight between LASK and Sporting CP on Thursday. Both teams are close to winning the group, so they will make an effort to do it. In their last home game LASK showed some serious muscle, crushing Dutch giants PSV with 4-0. This must be a warning sign for Sporting.
