Struggling Benfica host Olympique Lyonnais
Struggling Benfica host Olympique Lyonnais at the Estadio da Luz in a match from Group G of the Champions League. It may sounds a little weird, but the Portuguese giants will try to win their first points in the competition for the season. Let’s discuss it in our Champions League predictions for today.
Despite of being an European powerhouse, right now Benfica at the bottom of the standings of Group G with no points won so far. In their first two games in the group the Eagles suffered defeats against Zenit and RB Leipzig. Obviously Bruno Lage’s team is not at its best right now, at least in the Champions League. This match could be one of their last chances to make a positive change and do a step forward.
In the second round of the group stage Benfica travelled to Russia to face Zenit, suffering a 1-3 defeat in the beautiful city of Saint-Petersburg. Everything in the game was decided in the 78th minute, when Sardar Azmoun scored a third goal for the Russian side. Raul de Tomas scored one for Benfica, but it didn’t change much.
In the same time Olympique Lyonnais started a new era during the weekend. How you already know, the French club decided to sack the Brazilian manager Sylvinho because of poor results. The former coach of Roma and Olympique Marseille Rudi Garcia was appointed at his place. During the weekend Garcia debuted for Les Gones, but his team only won a point after a 0-0 draw with Dijon in the Ligue 1. Clearly he’s going to need some time t make things work. Let’s see how he will start in the Champions League on Wednesday.
In our Champions League predictions we can say that the game between Benfica and Olympique Lyonnais should be an interesting one. The hosts are looking for their first points, while Rudi Garcia will debut with Les Gones in the competition.
