Tenerife welcomes Athletic Bilbao
Tenerife welcomes Athletic Bilbao at the Estadio Heliodoro Rodriguez Lopez in a first 1/8-finals game from the Spanish Copa del Rey. Both teams will aim to progress towards the 1/4-finals of the competition. Let’s check it out in our football tips tonight.
In the previous round Tenerife already eliminated one of the La Liga teams, which means that they are not a team to be underrestimated. Led by former Spanish international Ruben Baraja, Tenerife hosted Real Valladolid and won the game with a 2-1 win. Sandro Ramirez actually opened the score for the visitors, but until the end Tenerife scored twice. Joselu equalised after an assist from Elliot Gomez, while just four minutes before the end Dani Gomez scored the winner from a penalty kick.
Tenerife are currently playin in the Spanish Segunda Division, but their performance is far from brilliant. Baraja’s team is 17th in the standings with 26 points, closer to relegation than to another promotion.
Athletic Bilbao needed penalties in order to reach the Copa del Rey 1/8-finals. The Basques were visitors to Elche and it was a really competitive game, which ended with a 1-1 draw. Inaki Williams scored a very early opener for Athletic, but Fidel equalised for Elche. During the penalties the visitors did better and they reached the 1/8-finals.
More or less, this is a decent season for Athletic so far. The Basques are currently 8th in La Liga, but just three points behind the 5th Valencia, so they can finish the season at a much better place. This is Gaizka Garitano’s second season at San Mames and he is still building his own project there. If the Basques qualify for Europe at the end of the season it wouldn’t be a surprise.
That’s our football tips tonight for the Copa del Rey clash between Tenerife and Athletic Bilbao on Tuesday. Good luck, pals!
