Wolfsburg will host Shakhtar Donetsk

We’re heading to Germany where Wolfsburg will host Shakhtar Donetsk in a first game from the 1/8-finals of Europa League. Let’s take a look in our Europa League predictions.

Wolfsburg can be happy with their European campaign so far. The Wolves had to face Sweden’s Malmo FF during the 1/16-finals and they were convincing, doing the job with two wins in the two games they played. Oliver Glasner’s team is hopeful of going as far as possible in Europa League, why not even reaching the final?

Right now Wolfsburg are in a strong run of 8 consecutive games without a loss in all competitions, which is giving them a well needed confidence before Thursday. Shakhtar Donetsk are arguably a club with a bigger European experience, but Wolfsburg are a Bundesliga side after all.

Few days ago Wolfsburg hosted one of the strongest German clubs at the moment RB Leipzig, but the match ended with no winners – 0-0.

Shakhtar Donetsk joined Europa League from the Champions League where they finished third in their group. The Ukrainian side is used to playing European games on a high level, so they won’t be scared or nervous of this trip to Germany. Some might say that they are even favourites to win the tie.

During the 1/16-finals Shakhtar showed their true strenght when they eliminated one of the major contenders for the trophy – Benfica. After a 2-1 win in Kharkiv, Shakhtar made a 3-3 draw in Lisboa and reached the next round.

In these Europa League predictions we can say that this is going to be a hugely competitive game between Wolfsburg and Shakhtar Donetsk at the Volkswagen Arena. Both teams have enough tools to progress. If we speak about experience in Europe though, then the Ukrainians are the team with a bigger one.
